What is Egg Donation
Our egg donation program in Freehold, Somerset, Lawrenceville, and Annandale is one of the most successful methods of helping infertile women get pregnant. Through egg donation, a fertile woman’s mature eggs are removed, fertilized with sperm, and implanted into the infertile woman. Egg donation offers women who have poor quality eggs, or no eggs at all, an excellent chance at becoming pregnant. Many candidates for egg donation have not responded well to drug therapy or have produced poor quality eggs during earlier in vitro fertilization.
In order to be an egg donor recipient, you must be healthy and have a normal uterus. If your partner’s semen is not sufficient to undergo standard IVF, intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) may be used. Donor sperm can be used for women who are a single or whose husband has no sperm. Our Egg Donor Program
Because of IVF New Jersey’s extensive efforts to recruit egg donors, many recipients are matched with an egg donor from our Lawrenceville, Somerset, Annandale, or Freehold office within two months and sometimes as quickly as the first visit!
We offer the option of sharing donor eggs, which significantly reduces the cost of egg donation. Another option is to find an egg donor through brokers, who recruit donors, perform preliminary screenings, and match them to an appropriate recipient couple.

Finding Egg Donors
There are two kinds of egg donors: women from the general population and college students. We find a prospective egg donor by posting ads in local newspapers. The women who respond to the ads are asked questions about themselves and are invited to attend a seminar at IVF NJ to learn more about the egg donation process in Freehold, Somerset, Annandale, or Lawrenceville.
When egg donors attend the seminar, they are given a packet that includes information about the medication, surgery, risks, side effects, lifestyle limitations, and time demands of the procedures. Each potential egg donor is asked to provide information about her background, physical attributes, and psychological history. They are also asked to complete a continued interest form to help facilitate the matching process.

The Egg Donor Matching Process
After the egg donor’s information is reviewed and the donor coordinator gets permission to contact the candidate, a psychological screening session is scheduled. During this psychological interview, the coordinator learns more about the donor's background and why she wants to be an egg donor. The coordinator then calls the recipient to outline the information obtained during the interview with the egg donor. The recipient also receives the donor's biography (written by her) and a childhood photo. If the recipient likes the egg donor, she signs an agreement and the egg donor is told to schedule a medical examination. The medical examination includes a complete history, physical, and a review of genetic and infectious diseases. Egg Retrieval
The egg donor takes fertility drugs, such as Perganol or Gonal-F, to increase the number of mature eggs that can be retrieved, increasing the chances of pregnancy. At IVF New Jersey, eggs are retrieved by ultrasound guidance rather than the more invasive laparoscopy procedure. The egg donor procedure takes place at one of our Somerset, Lawrenceville, Annandale, or Freehold locations. The patient will be sedated so she can sleep comfortably through the 15- to 20-minute procedure. During retrieval, a vaginal ultrasound probe is introduced into the vagina, allowing the physician to see the ovaries on a monitor. An aspirating needle is guided through the back vaginal wall and into the ripe egg sac of the ovary. The mature egg is gently aspirated out of the egg sac and placed in a culture dish in preparation of fertilization.

Fertilization And Embryo Transfer
On the day of egg retrieval, the recipient's husband or partner produces a sperm sample that is added to the eggs. Fertilization should occur 18 to 24 hours later. The fertilized eggs are allowed to grow for five days, and two of the embryos ("blastocysts") are transferred into the recipient's womb. "Extra" embryos can be cryopreserved (frozen) at this time.
